HOW TO BEGIN A CRISIS MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR YOUR COMPANY

Before you sit down and start crafting your plan from scratch, you probably have more resources to pull from than you realize. Here are just a few:

1. If you belong to an association, check out their website. They may offer courses or speakers on this subject.

2.Check with your current insurance agent/broker. Your current carrier may offer seminars or webinars on this subject or may offer templates for you to follow.

3.Local community colleges will begin offering classes in this subject in my area this fall....check your area.

4.Last/first resort? Check on line for articles.

WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE A CRISIS PLAN?

You know the main reasons.....you have debated them among the top management of your own company and among your peers.....you want to be ready before the inevitable crisis hits your company. The one you read about in the paper nearly every week that has hit your competitors. The one you hope never happens, but that keeps you awake at night worrying about how prepared you are IF it should hit you.  BUT there is really a very practical financial reason for having a plan in place and for doing it NOW that you may not have considered. Every year, your insurance agent collects data on you ...submits it to your underwriter,and that underwriter spits out your renewal pricing. What you may or may not know, is that one of the questions on the underwriter's mind is, Do you currently have a Crisis Management Plan?

If you DO, you will in all likelihood save money on both your workers compensation insurance and your general liability insurance. WHY? Because the underwriter knows, that in the event of a loss you are prepared and that loss will be less than it might have been.

SO.....

what all should go in to this plan....

Plan backwards....worst cast scenario...what do you WANT to happen....

1.Names and phone numbers of all employees in the hands of all managers, both at work and at home.

2. ONE contact (with one back up) for the media, and ALL employees told to refer all media to that person.(employees should carry a card in their wallets with that persons name and phone number and the exact words to say to the media).

3. A very detailed plan of who does what when and how in the event of every conceivable emergency. Having a plan, practicing it, being prepared, prevents panic, shows leadership and will save valuable time, money and lifes at critical moments. You and your company will be heros at the critical moment in history for your company. It could literally mean the difference between the future  life or death of your company.

THE SECRET TO SOLVING REPETITIVE MOTION CLAIMS

It's a problem, isn't it? For nearly every industry. And for both frequency and severity. Claims and loss control have put their heads together and have tried myriad things, ergo programs, etc and still...the beat goes on.

Here is my solution:

1. Put together a MANDATORY WELLNESS PROGRAM specifically for your company.

2. Everyone who has filed a Repititive Motion claim is in the program .

3. They meet the first hour of the day (on work time).

4. They perform simple excercises, which I will show you. These excercises don't hurt and can be done in any kind of comfortable clothing. If someone objects, have your HR person go with them to their doctor and get a doctor's release that they can indeed do these excercises.

5. Next, I will give you a lasar light machine (cost $100) and each employee gets a 15 minute treatment on the injury. Chiropractors are now charging $100 for these treatments. They are being used by the doctors of the Twins  and Vikings for sports injuries. I will show you how to use them. Again, if anyone objects, take them to their doctor, show the doctor the medical research on the healing capabilities of lasar light for soft tissue injury, and get a medical release.

6. Ask the employees to do these same things again, one hour at night on their own time. Give them one of the lasar machines if they say will use them for the length of their injury

7. Compare the cost of this plan with the cost of ONE RM claim!!!! Both direct cost and indirect costs which are 3 times the cost of direct costs.

8. Benefits: more cost effective, prevents fraudulent claims, stops minor claims right at the beginning, and perhaps most of all brings healing relief to even the most painful cases.

This plan is what allowed Arnold Palmer to go back to playing golf again when he was so racked with pain he could not play. I can show you  the research. And it is what cured my own carpal tunnel.
